ESANA GA 2005:
ESANA GA 2005 was held at the Egyptian
Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB), Washington D.C., USA from
January 20th to January 23rd, 2006.
Here are the main conclusions of the meeting:
Encourage and
support self-financed (SF) and study leave (SL) students. The
Ministry of Higher Education should increase the number of SF and SL
students through a strategic plan.
Allow
post-doctoral practical training, especially that a new visa is not
required. Also, the Egyptian universities have different opinion
regarding the practical training, where some universities allow it
while others do not.
Database should be
compiled in collaboration with the ECEBs and it should be utilized
to serve ESANA Projects.
Continue ESA-LINK
Canada Booklet; get it published; make it available for prospective
Egyptian graduate students.
Instrument
Campaign: address University needs in Egypt and contact
international corporations for potential donation program
More development in
scientific research services by ESANA through utilization of the
database and the on-line forum. The Egyptian Research Support (ERS)
Project needs to be jumpstarted.

ESANA GA 2004:
ESANA GA 2004 was held at the Egyptian
Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB), Washington D.C., USA from
January 14th to January 17th, 2005.
Here are the main conclusions of the meeting:
Bylaws
reform and amendments to move along with the new circumstances that
ESANA encounters.
Starting
scientific instruments campaign project for scientific instruments
and devices that are being set to retirement in some labs not for
being defective and sending those to labs in Egypt.
Finding
more sources of funding like donations and planning fundraisings,
especially after the fact that ESANA is not receiving support from
the Sadat’s Endowment nowadays.
The
fifth year extension to mission students either in a general sense
or on a case by case basis.
The time taken to evaluate the
degree achieved by the self-financed students upon returning to
Egypt, takes a longer time than the time taken to evaluate the
degree achieved by the mission students although both of them are
under the supervision of the Cultural & Educational Bureau. The
only difference is that the self-financed student saved the Egyptian
government some money.

in U.S.A. and Canada.
Examining the best time and a
proper lawyer to revive the notion of suing the Missions Department
of the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt regarding the two
recent modifications of its financial bylaws.
The EC should send a detailed
e-mail to all ESANA members explaining all the new regulations that
the Missions Department of the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt
enacted.
Regarding the recognition of
graduate degrees, the EC should wait for Dr. Khairy and Dr.
Elkhashab’s contacts in Egypt as a last chance. If they failed
the EC will send letters to the President, the Prime Minister, the
President of Egyptian People's Assembly, the Minister, the Chair of
the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. At the end, the EC
should take a legal action.
Dr. Ahmad Khairy promised that he will support ESANA’s
efforts to raise money via Al-Ahram Institution. Dr. Khairy also
said that he talked with one of the businessmen in Montréal
who promised to donate $10,000 to ESANA.
